A sustained commitment to building beloved community requires deep roots. Using a model of co-discernment, these Bible studies will examine the words of scripture through multiple lenses, with special attention to how selected passages intersect with our work for justice today.

Matthew 5:13-16: Trampled Light: Spiritual Resilience Under Assault
“You are the salt of the earth.” “You are the light of the world.” But what about the verses that follow, where salt that loses its saltiness is thrown out and trampled? Whose responsibility is it to offer protection from trampling? Who gets to be “light”? Burning light takes a lot of fuel; how do we get it? This study will explore the cycles of protection, requirements for justice, and instructions for communal ownership of safety and empowerment that Jesus embeds in these metaphors.
